Wereldreis Kamigot

Inleiding

Kamigot is op wereldreis gegaan van 28 april 2004 tot 30 april 2005. Hij is letterlijk de wereld om gegaan door via Azi� naar Australi� te reizen en via Noord-Amerika terug te keren in Europa. Onderweg schreef hij prachtige verhalen en maakte ook de meest waarzinnige foto's. Hij maakte spannende avonturen mee, maar ook minder leuke momenten. Het hoort er allemaal bij als je in je eentje een jaar de wereld in trekt en je kan het hier allemaal lezen.

Teenage tourist in fatal fall off roof

A CELEBRATION turned to tragedy yesterday when a Dutch backpacker died after falling from the roof of a Sydney hostel, just two weeks before he was due to go home. The 19-year-old was watching the sunrise with two friends when he fell 8m from the top of the Big Hostel on Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. It was the culmination of a night out to mark the end of his Australian adventure. A worker at the hostel said the teenager had spent 10 months travelling Australia's east coast, the last six months with about 12 others. The group had spent Thursday night farewelling two of their members due to fly overseas today, ending the night back at the hostel. "They were an extremely close group of friends and of course they are all just devastated," the employee said. Witnesses told police the man was in a restricted area of the building and tried to climb over a railing and slipped, landing on a carport next door.

Two British travellers he was with on the roof called for help and contacted emergency services. They borrowed a ladder from the hostel to reach the top of a tin carport attached to Red Spot car rentals. But an ambulance spokesman said he was dead when paramedics came at 5.25am. Backpackers at the hostel were too emotional to talk.

"Everybody is very upset," another employee said.

The teen was due to return to his hometown, Deventer, in two weeks after being at the hostel for several months.

"We all got to know him well," she said. "It's a terrible thing to happen and a very sad way for a lot of our guests who knew him to start their New Year. "People staying here have been silent and upset all day, a lot of them cutting short their holidays to return home." Superintendent Daryl Donnolley said witnesses were interviewed but there seemed to be no suspicious circumstances. Police have contacted Interpol to notify his family in the Netherlands.

Ik heb zelf de laatste 2 weken in Sydney in dit Hostel gezeten en die jongen Vincent uit Deventer kende ik goed. Hij vond het zo geweldig in Australie. Nog 2 weken zou hij in Sydney blijven voordat hij weer naar huis ging.

Het is niet te bevatten om te beseffen dat iemand waarmee je 2 weken lang bent opgetrokken in een keer uit het leven gegrepen wordt. Tot vroeg in de morgen kletsen, drinken, muziek luisteren, schaken, worms spelen en nederlandse humor. Hij had nog een prachtig leuk zwitsers meisje aan de haak geslagen en nu is dat allemaal weg.

Ik zat zelf op dat dakterras, ik kende al die mensen. Ik was zelf een paar weken geleden op het randje van de dood.

Ik kan niet bevatten hoe z'n vrienden en z'n familie zich nu voelen. Dit is zo verschrikkelijk, ik ben er helemaal kapot van...
